LitLab
Project Title: Water Literacy Lab
Project Duration: 1 April 2026 – 31 March 2029
Brief description of the project
The ThWIC project Water Literacy Lab (LitLab) strengthens collaboration between science, technology development, civil society, policy-makers, industry and public institutions.
Germany has long been regarded as a water-rich country. However, climate change and increasing pressures on water bodies are making questions of water availability and water quality increasingly important. As a result, public awareness of water-related challenges has grown significantly in recent years. Scientific organisations, professional associations and policy-makers alike emphasise the need to strengthen societal awareness and understanding of water issues.
The aim of LitLab is to expand the social science expertise within the ThWIC cluster and to address water as a public concern and a shared societal responsibility. To achieve this, the project brings together a broad range of stakeholders and establishes structures that connect research, practice and the wider public. Public debates and perceptions of water-related issues are analysed, while new dialogue, participation and knowledge transfer formats are developed and tested.
By fostering water literacy, stakeholder engagement and cross-sector collaboration, LitLab contributes to informed decision-making, greater societal awareness and the development of innovative partnerships for a sustainable water future.
